Vietnam is the third largest mineral producer in Southeast Asia and is in the top 40 per cent of economies globally when considering the importance of mining to the economy.
Vietnam has discovered more than 5000 new minerals and deposits, reviewed a number of minerals and natural resources such as oil and gas, coal, titanium, bauxite, phosphate rocks, rare earth, copper, gold, iron ore, mineral construction materials and some others.
Many of the open cut mines are coming to the closure and trends are shifting toward more advanced technologies and investments in underground mining. The country has various types of mineral deposits however is dominated by its coal production. Coal, alumina, phosphate and tungsten are on large industrial scale, the majority of current mining projects in the country are small or medium in scope. Vietnam offers major opportunities for the processing and refinery industry along with mining equipment, technologies and services.
