To assist businesses with understanding the complexities of doing business with China, the City of Whitehorse and the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) Victoria are pleased to invite you to their China Ready briefing to equip you with the necessary basic information for planning and commencing commercial operations in, or with China.
At the event, attendees will hear from Mr Tom Parker, Partner of Bastion China and Vice President of ACBC Victoria. Tom is a China specialist with a focus on collaboration between Australia and China to broaden our bilateral relationship.
A Mandarin speaker, Tom’s long-term engagement with China has resulted in impressive networks and successful business outcomes. He has held China focused roles in The Asialink Centre, Austrade (Beijing), City of Melbourne and as writer and reporter for the ABC in both China and Australia for Radio National’s Asia Pacific Program before establishing his own business and developing Bastion China as one of Australia's leading Chinese language marketing and communications agencies.
Tom is a well connected Australia-China facilitator with extensive experience assisting business and government assisting them to access opportunities in China, including working with the Victorian Government for trade missions. Most recently, Tom helped the City of Casey develop their China partnerships and strategy.
In his presentation, Tom will address key issues that should be considered when taking business or products to China, such as:
- Why do you want to go to China?
- Pre-planning and due diligence
- How to set up a presence in China
- What to look out for
- Other considerations such as entry point, risk, tax, IP, cross border e-commerce and government assistance
- Where you can get help
At the event, attendees will also have an opportunity to hear from Judy O'Connell, Victorian Small Business Commissioner. In December 2016, Judy O’Connell commenced as the Victorian Small Business Commissioner, where she advocates to make sure Victorian small businesses have a fair and competitive environment whilst running their business.
Judy also manages the quick, low-cost dispute resolution service for small business. In her presentation Judy will speak about her role as Victorian Small Business Commissioner and the services available to support your business.
